Welcome!

My name is Dr. Heather Gosnell. I am a physician, wife, mother, veteran, business owner, and plant-based health coach. I have been studying nutrition for over 7 years. I hold a BS from University of Maryland and an MD from Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. I also hold a plant-based coaching certification from Food Revolution Network with over 100 hours of coach-specific training.

Have you ever wondered what is truly the healthiest diet? There is so much information out there and it’s often overwhelming and conflicting. Who and what do you believe???

When I was in medical school, we learned very little about nutrition.  Instead, we learned about disease management.  I read diet books on my own and tried to eat a healthy diet. I was able to keep my weight in check and thought I was being healthy, but boy was I wrong!  I went on this way for years, even feeding my family this way. I was a busy mom, wife, and doctor who didn’t have much time to cook. I bought quick and easy meals that seemed healthy enough.

Then in 2017, I read the book How Not To Die by Dr. Michael Greger, and it truly changed my life and how I thought about nutrition!  I couldn’t believe the evidence-based nutritional information in that book wasn’t taught in medical school. It felt like this was a secret that not many people knew about. 

I devoured that book and anything else I could find regarding evidence-based nutrition. I learned that lifestyle has a huge impact on whether or not we get heart disease, diabetes, dementia and many other chronic diseases. Our genes are not our destiny! Research shows that only 25% of our lifespan is determined by genetics, leaving the majority of our destiny in our own hands. With a genetic predisposition to early onset dementia, I sought ways to mitigate the risk. Upon discovering the profound impact of dietary changes on not just dementia prevention, but also heart disease, diabetes, and cancer prevention, I wholeheartedly embraced the plant-based lifestyle myself. 

I transformed everything about the way I ate, my family ate, and the advice I give to my patients. I no longer struggle to keep my weight in check, I have more energy, I sleep better, I lowered my cholesterol, and I get sick less often. I have helped my patients/clients lose weight, lower their cholesterol, lower their hemoglobin A1c, lower their blood pressure, and feel better, too!

It still amazes me to this day how much nutrition can change our health. Over time, I realized I have a calling to educate and coach people to adopt this lifestyle.

In my 3-month transformational program, I guide people seeking to transition to a more plant-based lifestyle. We meet weekly for 12 sessions, each lasting 50 minutes. During these sessions, we work on goal setting, mindset tools, food substitutions, recipes, and education, with coaching and support all along the way. I also provide a private portal for clients to access and message me between sessions for any additional support or questions. We aim to achieve more energy, improved overall health, better digestion, restful sleep, and improved lab markers. Our goal is to help you feel better and more energetic now, while preventing conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer, dementia, and other chronic illnesses in the future. This fosters healthier and more fulfilling lives for you and your families.
